MANISTEE—A new commercial enterprise is coming to downtown Manistee this month, welcoming hobbyists of all kinds, from tabletop recreation gamers to avid gamers and even video game players. Backstage Hobbies & Games has been based in Ludington at 119 S. James St. for almost 12 years, but proprietors Nate and Nicole Petersen are geared up to open the second location at 390 River St. in Manistee.
The Petersens signed a one-year hire in March for the Manistee vicinity. “For Nicole and I, that is the type of an old hat; we had been here for a while now,” Nate said. “Everyone has been very excited, welcoming, and warm, and it’s been a first-rate experience. “I have completed a variety of side things over time… I usually appreciated being able to (run an enterprise) so that we could do it without quite a few fears. I have little doubt that this will work out how we hope.”
Ryan Horton, co-owner and manager of the Manistee region, said most of the paintings have already been finished. They are planning a soft opening on April 13 to allow them to decide the store’s hours of operation more effectively and invite people to test out their new area.
A grand opening will then take the region from noon to 6 p.m. On May 25. “We were looking to visit Manistee for some years now,” Horton said. “We have quite a huge player base that drives down from Manistee on a month-to-month to the weekly foundation. They have constantly been clamoring for us to open an area here.”
Backstage Hobbies & Games is a hub for video, board, and buying and selling card games like Magic: The Gathering or Pokémon. Horton said there’s already interest in video games like Pokémon from an expansion of organizations with teenagers and children.
“We do the entirety of gaming,” Horton said. “We do board games, video games, card games, Dungeons and Dragons — everything you could have at the desk. We are a nerd and geek lifestyle. “It’s now not uncommon for us on a Friday night to have among 25-30 human beings gambling numerous games.”
